Wine taste of the week

We are tasting the Schloss Vollrads 2003 "and than some German words" Riesling. At least that is what my wife of supposed German descent called it. I guess that's what you learn growing up in the country.

The Stats:
Schloss Vollrads
Vintage: 2003
Genre of wine: "Some German words" Riesling

Interestingly enough, we had a nice dessert of Middle Eastern spiced french toast with honey and vanilla ice cream. For flavors think Cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and honey (unfortunately we were short on walnuts and raisins). This wine paired flawlessly with the honey. It's a dry Riesling with a nice forward of honey and very fruity undertones of pineapple. Interestingly enough the finish has a small bit of green apple tartness. I would call this a silky smooth wine, which is a true pleasure to drink.

A big thank you to Cathy at Bombace Wine and Spirits in Canandaigua. We walked into the store looking to explore a new region of the world of wine, and we were guided to a true gem.
